Ian took the causeway in 2022. Sanibel rebuilt it in fifteen days, then set about rebuilding the island itself — elevated, code-hardened, and still unmistakably old Florida. The new Sanibel needs window treatments built to the same standard.
Nearly every property on Sanibel sits in FEMA's highest-velocity flood zone, and the post-Ian rebuild — driven by the 50% rule — has produced a generation of newly elevated homes with taller first floors, bigger window walls, and fresh interiors that need treatments from scratch. We've been part of that rebuild since the causeway reopened, running installs from our Fort Myers factory just over the bridge.
Sanibel is also a dark-skies island: the lighting ordinance protects nesting sea turtles by keeping interior light off the beach at night. Fully closing shutters and room-darkening cellular shades contain light spill at the window — a practical compliance layer for Gulf-front homes and rentals during turtle season.

Sanibel's architectural DNA is the raised cottage — peaked metal roofs, deep porches, big windows made for cross-breeze, the style preserved at the island's Historical Village. Louvered shutters have always belonged to that vocabulary. We build them in stain-grade wood for period homes and salt-immune composite for Gulf-front exposure, where UV and humidity run as hard as anywhere in Florida.
Island logistics, handled: we schedule measuring and installation in single trips over the causeway, coordinate with builders mid-rebuild, and work around rental calendars for the island's many vacation properties near Periwinkle Way and the Gulf beaches by Ding Darling refuge.
